In the Woods

A 12 year old girl is brutally murdered and two detectives are working the case. One of those detectives, Detective Ryan, was involved in another missing persons case when he was in the same woods twenty years ago (also at age 12) where his two best friends disappeared.

I really enjoyed the actual murder story in this book, but hated everything else about it, especially the "love story" between the two detectives. Abomination. I didn't like the main character, Detective Ryan. And it wasn't the "love to hate" relationship either. It was pure dislike. He was a complete jerk and I felt no sympathy for him whatsoever, even though I can tell French wanted the reader to feel some.

When I first finished this book, I was mad at the ending but semi okay with it. Three hours later, I am fuming over the way it ended. And I can't really say much more than that without giving it away. Which is really disappointing! If anyone else has actually read it, I'd love to debate it with you and see what you think as well!

I've heard that The Likeness is much better from some, and I've also heard that it's just as disappointing as In the Woods.
